With the process of urbanization and the enhancement of people¡¯s ecological awareness, eco-city has become the main mode and direction of the development and construction of modern city. The construction of eco-city should be based on the principle of ecology-based, and is of high degree of unity of the social, economical and natural among the sustainable development of cities.Zhengzhou, located in the hinterland of China, Beijing-Guangzhou and the Longhai Railway in the intersection, is an important national transport hub of modern road and communications hubs with complete transportation and communication network. It was evaluated one of the best 10 cities that have the most development potential and investment environment by World Bank in 2003. The rapid expansion in urban area and rapid growth of economic has also brought some urban construction and ecological problems which will not only hinder the further growth of the urban economy but also affect to make people¡¯s life more comfortable in Zhengzhou .In view of this, this research argues that eco-city urban agglomeration should be the ideal model of urban development of Zhengzhou.This paper first study the basic theory of ecological city construction.Then the ecological urban construction evaluation index system for Zhengzhou was put forward through a comprehensive consideration of resources , economy , society , environment and the policy after a survey to the present condition of the city. An evaluation model was built and the principal components of the system were extracted using factorization method. According to the calculations, water resources capacity was analyzed and environment quality was evaluated ,and some effective measures were put forward .The results have important reference value in ecological urban construction evaluation.
