Abstract:
The Eight Major Estuaries of Pearl River are Humen, jiaomen, hongqimen, hengmen,modaomen, jitimen, hutiaomen, yamen waterways. The ultimate outcome of heavy metal inthe Pearl River after physical, chemical and biological reactions will flow into the sea throughthe eight Estuaries. The heavy metal pollution variety and its concentration will directly affectthe water quality of the Pearl River Estuaries. Thus, scientific and accurate monitoring andevaluation in water environment of the Eight Major Estuaries of the Pearl River is the basethat enforces water environmental protect and comprehensive management.This paper uses water and sediment in the Eight Major Estuaries of Pearl River as objectof research, respectively monitors water quality of the whole eight sections of Dahu, Nansha,Fengmamiao, Hengmen, Denglongshan, Huangjin, Xipaotai and Huangchong in2011, andmonitors sediment of the Eight Major Estuaries twice in September and December2011. ItFocuses On investigating chemical elements content and seasonal changes of water andsediment in the Pearl River Estuary of heavy metal, e.g As¡¢Hg¡¢Pb¡¢Cd.It uses Single FactorIndex method and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation method to evaluate the water quality andevaluates the sediment using Index of Geoaccumulation and Hakanson Potential EcologicalHazard Index method.The result proves that,(1)From the variation regulation of heavy metal ion in different seasons in the EightMajor Estuaries of Pearl River, the maximum value of As and Pb appeared in non-floodseason January, while the lowest value appeared in flood season April to September. Therewas no obvious variation of the value of Hg and Cd in whole year.(2) The result of single factor index method shows that As, Pb and Cd density wasclassified I class water standard in2011. Hg density varied between I to III class waterstandard. The single factor risk of As, Hg, Pb and Cd respectively polluted water quality ofthe Eight Major Estuaries of Pearl River is relatively small. The research result of fuzzycomprehensive evaluation method shows that As, Hg, Pb and Cd content were classified IIIclass water standard. The pollution level of the four heavy metals, e.g. As, Hg, Pb and Cdwere low. (3) Index of Geoaccumulation and Potential ecological risk index are used to evaluate thepotential ecological risk of heavy metal in sediment of the Eight Major Estuaries,two evaluation results are basically the same. In September and December, the pollution levelis between clean and light polluted, the ecological risk level is slight ecological harm.
