Abstract:
Sonar Target Glint is the inherent error in the measurement of sonar target direction angle. This paper established two models of sonar target glint deviation using the highlight model and plate element method. The glint characteristic of rigid sphere and Benchmark targets was analyzed with these models. The results showed that the glint deviation is coming from the echo interference of multiple highlight points on the expanded targets and the glint deviation inclined towards the stronger highlight point, sonar target glint is related to acoustic frequency, the higher the frequency, the stronger the glint.Using high-resolution MUSIC algorithm to do the experiment on the rigid spheres and benchmark model. The results showed that the glint deviation is surely exist in the measurement of sonar target direction angle, the models established in this paper is accurate, can be used to forecast sonar target glint, and confirmed the glint mechanism and the general laws of glint, found out that short CW pulse and LFM pulse could decrease the glint deviation. The experiment of 1/20 and 1/40 Benchmark model show that the general laws of glint is applicable to complex target, and complex target have some special characteristics.
