Abstract:
Cationic starch can be widely used in papermaking, medicine, sewage treatment and other industries, and the performance of a single property cationic starch is limited, and does not apply to the modern development of new technologies, new processes and new equipment requirements. The aluminum ammonium cationic starch £¨ACS£© we developed has higher charge density, and its transparency is better than ordinary gelatinized starch. So it is a solution to these problems above.We studied the preparation of the ACS in this paper. We used the ordinary starch, dimethyl-diallyl ammonium chloride and aluminum sol as the raw material, cerium ammonium nitrate as initiator, synthesized the three graft copolymer. By single factor analysis and orthogonal experiments, detailed study the influences on the nitrogen content of the product, such as the initiator, monomer amount, aluminum sol amount, H2O: St, reaction temperature and reaction time. and Experiments show that the best preparation conditions are: the amount of initiator is 0.54%, the monomer is 50%,the aluminum sol is 3.5%, reaction temperature is 55¡æ, reaction time is 3h, H2O: St = 2:1. Its molecular weight is low, and it has higher charge density and a moderate degree of substitution. And its transparency is better than ordinary cationic starch; its nitrogen content is about 0.58%, higher than the ordinary cationic starch £¨CS£© £¨0.30%£©.Charge density analysis shows that the charge density of ACS is higher than the ordinary cationic starch; We use UV spectrophotometry to analysis the aluminum content of ACS; scanning electron microscope analysis shows that the graft copolymerization of ACS both happen in the surface and the within cationic starch granule; infrared spectrum analysis shows that the structure of DADMAC exists in the grafts. All the above shows that the monomer is successfully introduced into the CS, and make it into a cationic starch with higher nitrogen content, thus confirming the feasibility of wet preparation of ACS.We discussed the effect on the physical properties of the paper when ACS were respectively used in deinking pulp, bleached reed pulp and unbleached eucalyptus pulp in different amount, it investigated the application effects of ACS, and were compared with CS. Application results show that, ACS made a good retention effect in DIP and unbleached eucalyptus pulp, and its retention effect on the bleaching of chemical wood pulp is general, the addition which with the best retention effect is 0.75% to 1.0%. The minimum white water turbidity respectively were 5.2NTU, 4.2NTU and 3.0NTU when it used in the three above, and the highest ash content was 23.27%, 10.83% and 11.48%. When compared ACS by adding the same amount in the three pulp with CS, we found that, ACS has better flocculation and retention effect than CS regardless of what kind of slurry. ACS went with dual role of retention and enhancement, it can simultaneously improve the paper strength and the retention of fine fibers.
