Abstract:
At present, the volume of industrial wastewater disposed by the water treatment plant generally accounts for 4% to 7%. However, there are many cases where the sludge was discharged directly into the nearby rivers and lakes, or the ponds were used for short-term storage and regular dredging for the sludge, which exerts a negative impact on the water sources and natural environment. This paper studies the production of ceramic tiles using dewatered sludge of water treatment plant as admixture by reference to the normal production process of ceramic tiles. Analysis is made on the modulus rupture, water absorption rate and the other key factors of specimen and discussion is held on the feasibility of producing ceramic tiles using sludge in order to determine the basic process and formulation parameters. The results showed that the modulus of rupture of specimen increased with the increase of the content of sludge, while the water absorption rate decreased and the best admixture amount of sludge was at 40% to 50% with the water absorption rate 0.5% to 3% and modulus of rupture over 35MPa. In this condition, the specimen meeted the standard of dry-pressed stoneware tile GB/T4100.3-2006, and it was of good chemical erosion resistance, which meeted the requirements of GB/T3810.13-2006.By studying the experimental process of producing common baked brick using dewatered waterworks sludge and analyzing the apparent nature, compressive strength, water absorption rate and other major factors of baked brick, some dates are determined as followed: the optimal admixture amount of sludge is 60% to 70%, the sintering temperature is 850¡æ~ 950¡æ, the water absorption rate is about 20%; the compressive strength is higher than 20MPa which reaches the MU20 and MU25 Clay Bricks grade of GB5101-2003; and the infusion is not corrosive which meets the standards of GB/T15555.12-1995.The results show that it is feasible to produce ceramic tiles using waterworks sludge, which makes the sludge transfer into useful resources, reduces the amount of sludge discharge, and the usage of clay as well as the dosage of coal.
