Abstract:
Discussed in this thesis is an intelligent measurement system which can be used as measurement and/or quality control purposes for a kind of petro/LPG dual fuel automobile engine controller. Presented in the thesis first are the infrastructure, functional blocks, and working modes of the dual fuel automobile engine controller; circuit models are then created to reflect these functional blocks and working modes; and appropriate testing schemes are further proposed. Basically, the intelligent measurement system proposed in this thesis consists of an intelligent measurement device and a software package running on a personal computer. The structure and circuit design of the intelligent device is given and described; also given is the design of both testing scenario setting up control circuits and test result measurement circuits for various parts of the to-be-tested controller; among these circuits are engine injector timing generator, large current generator, engine running safe guard signal, as well as many relay on-off detection circuits. Also discussed in detail is the firmware design of the intelligent measurement device. A general view of the design is given and the functions of various program modules are also described in detail, including how they are working together with hardware circuits in a coordinated way to fulfill the measurement requirements. The intelligent measurement device is under the control of a control and analysis software running on a PC. The communications between them is carried over a serial communications channel. To ensure communications between them can be done in a reliable way, a protocol is designed and implemented in this thesis. The control and analysis software can be running on various Windows operating systems, and it has the capability of database manipulations. The user interface design, to-be-tested controller¡¯s serial number generating approach, the recording of test engineer identification, and the recording of test results in database are all discussed in the thesis. Finally, the proposed measurement system is implemented and prototyped completely and test runs are also carried out with test results being presented.
