Since the16th century, along with the re-spreading and developing of TibetanBuddhism in Inner Mongolia region, Tibetan Buddhist architecture has graduallyformed a relatively distinctive geographical feature and been accumulated to be akind of unique historical and cultural heritage. As an important part of deep culturalstructure in Inner Mongolia region, its appearance, development and extinctionwitnessed the journey one nation had undergone in a particular historical period.Although Tibetan Buddhist architecture has experienced several times of demolitionand destruction in history, now the remaining more than100monasteries are stillconfronted with some new trials and tribulations as tourism development and etc.They need researching and collating urgently.Currently, in domestic and overseas research field, the research on TibetanBuddhist architecture in Inner Mongolia region is rare and unsystematic. The researchon the form of the architecture is almost blank. This paper is by far the first relativelycomprehensive and systematic academic monograph on the research of TibetanBuddhist architectural form in Inner Mongolia regionFirst, set up files systematically based on survey materials. The papersummarizes the common feature of such architectural form in Inner Mongolia region,revealing ¡°what¡± the form is---as an entry point for research; Then, in the third£¬fourth and fifth chapters, in different subjects, the paper analyzes the impact ofthree main factors---political, cultural and religious factors on Tibetan Buddhismarchitectural form in Inner Mongolia region and its corresponding formperformance, responding to the question ¡°why¡± the form is, which is the main contentof the paper; and based on the above research and the special position of the mainconstruction space in the monastery-----scripture hall and buddha hall in this kind ofarchitectural form. The sixth chapter specially summarizes its layout rules. In addition,in view of the richness of Monastery architectural form in Inner Mongolia region, as asupplement to research integrity, the seventh chapter specifically analyzes the typicalcases of Monastery form; Finally, the paper focuses on the application of research results, proposes the general principles of Monastery protection in Inner Mongoliaregion on the basis of surveying newly built Monasteries, introduces personal designexperience----the process of designing and thinking about ¡°Red Monastery¡± and onthis basis, summarizes the concept and spirit that contemporary regional architecturalcreation should inherit in Inner Mongolia.This paper adopts the research methods of system induction, typology, andanthropology, analyzes multiple effecting factors from the representation ofarchitectural form, explores building prototype and its deep cultural structure. It has acertain reference value for static protection and dynamic development of TibetanBuddhist architecture in Inner Mongolia region and actual significance in exploringregional architectural culture.
