China covers a large territory and has many nationalities. Each of the nationality hasalready formed its own national culture and the retained traditional settlement is a veryfabric of the culture. Nowadays the area of the research in architecture is expanding. Moreand more minority traditional villages have received more attention from architects£¬andthe related studies have become more and more popular. Taking Shemihu as the studysubject, we are going to research the spatial form of the Tujia settlement. The settlement is one of the physical embodiment of human life, and there arenumbers of connections between the spatial form and the human life. The content of thisstudy doesn¡¯t only contain the spatial form itself but also projection relations from thespatial form to the patterns of human society. And this can help promoting furtherunderstanding of features of spatial form. The spatial form of Shemihu will be discussed on three levels£¬such as thesettlement£¬the public buildings and the resident buildings. We plan to do some researchand mapping in the village in order to maser features of spatial form. By using theperspective of cultural anthropology and living together with local villagers to find outtheir behavior pattern of living and their special ideology£¬we could master the ways andrules of their social life when we discuss the local patterns of human society. After findingout the one-to-one projection relation between each element of the space form and theelement of patterns of human society£¬we can figure out how these elements interact toeach other and realize its features of spatial form in a real-life perspective. At the end of the paper a summary about all the projection relations mentioned in thisstudy is offered.
