Abstract:
Dynamic consolidation is a way to improve soil strength and reduce compressibility of the soil by lifting and dropping a heavy hammer very high to hit the foundation soil .This method, developed from heavy hammer tamping, has many advantages and has been widely used in civil engineering projects. In recent years a number of projects have used this method in Jiangxi Province.During the dynamic compaction, the role of shock waves is to make air and pore water in soil get out and have the original soil particle structure and strength changed. For different kinds of soils, the reinforcement effect of is different due to using different arts of construction. Effective improvement depth of dynamic consolidation can reflect the reinforcement effect of dynamic consolidation very well, and that is a very important concept or index. But there is existing problem that the definition of the depth of improvement is inconsistency. Many experts and scholars have proposed lots of formulas for effective improvement depth through the researches by a lot of different ways. These formulas have their advantages and disadvantages in practice and theory. In general, the effect of calculating effective improvement depth of dynamic consolidation is anything but satisfactory. It is necessary to further study formula for effective improvement depth in multifaceted and multi-angled.In this paper, according to reinforcement mechanism of dynamic consolidation¡¢the previous experience and actual engineering practice, a lot of the factors affecting the effective improvement depth are analyzed, and their key factors are decided. With the theory of energy conversation, dimensional analysis method and least-square method, combined with experimental research examples of the dynamic consolidation, a new formula for calculating the effective improvement depth is presented this paper. The research shows the result of calculation is better and the choice of construction parameters is simple and convenient. It is still shown that number of hammer hitting in increase or decrease and density of soils have an effect on effective improvement depth of dynamic consolidation and must be considered. The formula in this paper overcomes the fault that Menard¡¯s formula only considers the single tamping energy and it¡¯s dimension is inconsistency.
